Because root rot(Phytophthora cinnommomi Rands) was a major threat to Taiwan avocado industry, root rot resistant stock propagation was very important. In this report propagation of“ Duke 7”, Brokaw method, or Frolich and Plat method was tested. The grafted Duke plants were cut back just above the region near the graft union, then move them into the dark chamber. After the grafted buds grow sufficiently, the stem above grafted union were treated as follows: metal ring + non rub, metal ring + rub, only rub, black band wrapping + rub, black band wrapping + non rub, check. Then the plastic tubes were filled with medium until the new shoots were covered except the tip. The results show under all treatments, adventitious roots could be induced at near region above grafted union and all treatments had not effect on initiation of adventitious roots. Black band could become brittle or lost stickness after a period and could not replace the girdling effect of metal ring.
